I am still swishing Matthew Fox’s 95 Theses around in my consciousness.
The five theses below speak to an issue that is very near and dear to my heart…a sustainable future for our planet.
#18 Ecojustice is a necessity for planetary survival and human ethics.
#19 Sustainability is another word for justice.
#21 Economic justice requires the work of creativity to birth a system of economics that is global, respectful of the earth, and that works for all.
#22 Celebration and worship are key to human community and survival and deserve new forms that speak in the language of the twenty-first century.
#80 A wise test of right action is this: What is the effect of this action on people seven generations from today?
In October of 2006, I “attended” the Business As An Agent of World Benefit Conference via computer–mostly in my jammies late at night. One of the speakers who really captured my attention was Ray Anderson, a self-proclaimed “radical industrialist” who spoke eloquently about “climbing Mount Sustainability.”
His dreams and plans for Interface Carpet, the world’s largest carpet manufacturer, are bold:
Zero Impact
Eliminate Waste
Control/ Eliminate Emissions
Cut the Fossil Fuel Umbilical Cord
Cut the Umbilical Cord to Earth for Raw Materials
Re-tool Transportation to be Carbon Neutral
Create a Culture Shift by Redesigning Commerce

The question that always arises for me is, what can I do personally to have zero impact and to eliminate waste? Here are some enlightening links:
Consider this. According to Peter Senge, it takes 1 TON of raw materials per day to support your individual daily lifestyle as an American and that overlooks the amount of waste that is produced in the process! Further, in the United States, the average pound of food travels 2,000 miles from where it is produced to where it is purchased…Farmer’s Market, here I come!
