This is my journey. Life long. I offer multiple practices of wholeness that inform awareness. Here you will find poetry I love, favorite people, places, inspirations and my photographs. This is where my inner edge meets your inner edge and where my inner edge meets learning, synchronicity, expansion. In addition, here is where you’ll find my website.
I’m a seeker…this is my personal covenant:
1. My destiny and commitment to myself is to step into my signature presence which expresses diamond clarity and practiced integration of body, mind, spirit and intuition for the benefit of all.
2. I will leverage my strengths, which are deep abiding peace, laser awareness, open-hearted acceptance, compassion, imagination and unwavering commitment.
3. I will deal with my shortcomings of tentativeness and waiting by being proactive, visible and asking for what I want as I offer who I am.
4. In order to create space for renewal, I let go of being overly responsible for the daily-ness of my life and the lives of others and focus on creative expression and synergistic collaboration with interested partners.
5. In personal triumph, I affirm my legacy by expressing my spacious awareness, intuitive knowing and deep compassion while surrendering to the genius and generosity of the universe. I invite others to do the same.
I’ll be sharing my thoughts, feelings and resources with you…
My passion is to elicit the vibrance and creativity that we all possess so that we can leave a legacy of relational and planetary sustainability for our children and grandchildren.
Dear Sandy:
What a beautiful testimony to YOU and YOUR presence in my life and the world. You are an example of reaching out to all with all of your possibilities…that special Something within you is meant to touch many. Your artistic expressions are exquisite. You are an expression of the Infinite…as you share so freely that which you learn moment to moment, day to day, life to life. I am blessed by your abundance…as is the world. I am nearing that place where I burst forth into the world to share my own expression…and so much that I have learned from YOU. I bow to you, for as you expand, so do I, and so do ALL…as All are ONE. Jai Ma!!

Dearest Patricia,
My name is Anders Mortensen. You may not remember me, but i cannot forget you and what you have shown me. I was a student of yours at Ramapo, and it has been many years since we have spoken. I really just wanted to take this oportunity to try to get in touch and thank you for opening my eyes to the Dharma, and showing me so much about death and dying and life and living. You have touched me greatly and will remain in my heart forever. I pray that this letter finds you in good health and happiness.
I also hope that someday soon we can meet again. Thank you again Patricia, for everything.

as i stumbled across your blog, it stopped me in my tracks. im not sure if it was because i have 2 young children, a mother i barely speak with, a deceased father, or the mere fact that your writing has drawn me into a world of which i’m not familiar with. That world is of introspection, where i examine where i am and put a value or a meaning on everything that is important or what i think is important. i hate that i cant. period. life is life and for whatever reason, some people can and some can’t, but the experience it to its fullest even though you can’t do, is the challeng. thanks for the insight in to your life and lives.

Hello Sandy,
We will never fully know the effect that our own lives have on countless others but I wanted to let you know that I have been sharing many of the poems and ideas that you have posted here with my yoga students. Your thoughts have made me become more aware of life and living and I can only hope that by sharing them with my students, their lives have been touched too.
Thanks for giving of yourself.

I have been reading your blog – lovely writing and you have superb taste in poets. I have been looking for a Jane Hirshfield poem that was published shortly after 9/11. I cannot remember the title and, though I have many of her books, none with this poem. The essence of the poem was that any of those who died would live deeply, given the chance.

Dear Sandy, similarly to others, I found your blog by searching for someone else – in this case looking for a David Whyte poem. What a lovely blog you have! I have been on the edge of setting one up myself with photos, my poems and those of other poets and posting the music I compose.
I didnΒ΄t know blogs could be this gentle and unself-obessed. IΒ΄d use yours as a possible model, if you donΒ΄t mind.
I love your inner edges and the great clarity they announce.
I have been walking the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage in Spain – 1000 year old meditative walk over around 1000 km. I arrived yesterday and am inspired by you today, in Santiago. Thanks for your serendipitous visit into my day.

Mastering Self Awareness
by Sheila Radha Conrad
Mastering self-awareness can open up a world of opportunities, experiences and relationships for you. The way you think and feel about something affects the way you act and the results you get. When you have a clear perception of your personality, thoughts and feelings, you can fully understand yourself and others without judgment and react accordingly.
Our brains are built to make the judgments and choices that keep us alive. Clear self awareness is difficult to achieve because of beliefs and mistruths we have adopted as we went along. Self-judgment shuts down self awareness. We tend to turn our ability to judge against ourselves and others.
Blaming others for our predicament makes real growth impossible. We feel we are the victim of circumstances that are beyond our control, we feel helpless to change them. We become defensive, deny our behavior and blame others for the situation we created. We can prolong and nurture our suffering by dwelling on a negative life experience until we define ourselves by that experience.
By not taking responsibility for ourselves, we continue to re-experience and live in negative feelings. This is how we are perpetuating our suffering by re-focusing our attention on the negativity. Through repeated self-effort we can learn how to positively focus our energies.
As we become conscious of what weβre thinking, we are in a position to choose to change what weβre thinking. We can deliberately cause a change in our thoughts, emotions and actions that will change our lives. We can be aware of our own emotions and how to channel them in order to achieve what we want. As we gain understanding and clarity, we see our action, experience it as an error, correct it, makes amends where needed, let go of it, and move on with life.
When we practice self-awareness without judgment, the βselfβ only shows up when appropriate. It moves to the background during play, sports activities and creativity, and happiness. The more we learn to handle self-destructive patterns, the less attached we will be to these patterns. In time we will eliminate them. Now, you can love yourself and treat yourself with compassion How can you do this?
You start by scheduling time for yourself. Find a quiet place and a period of time to reflect on a regular basis. Then, in a systematic way, you look back over the happenings of your life to discover how you have become the person you are. Review your own thoughts, ask yourself questions. Note your emotions when you hear yourself answer. There are counselors who offer exercises that help to focus and guide your self awareness.
As you review and re-experience, you find you can take greater control over your thinking processes and can correct thoughts that are erroneous or self negating. You can wipe away the years of misperceptions and mistruths and begin to see clearly. You learn how to be more responsible for your actions, free of guilt, fear, or resentment. You will experience yourself as a wiser, more independent, happier person who controls his or her own destiny.

I discovered your blog one day while looking for a Mary Oliver poem. Your writing and exquisite photographs have brought inspiration to me and my mother over the last several months. Thank you for the grace you have brought to our lives. I am caring for my mother as she transitions from this life to the next. I am reminded of being in the present moment as I observe my mother living with Alzheimer’s disease. The present moment is her lens and I have the gift of looking through it with her.
