“Nirvana is the capacity to maintain your composure in the face of ceaseless change”
– Suzuki Roshi –
I have to wonder…is nirvana also the capacity to maintain your composure in the face of ceaseless sameness? Winter here persists. Tonight we change the clocks to “daylight savings time.” Tomorrow my body clock will awaken at its usual time, expecting long panels of light on the ceiling. Somewhere a lost hour willing be searching for me.
“Great is the matter of birth and death.
Life slips quickly by.
Time waits for no one.
Wake up! Wake up!
Don’t waste a moment.”

The eyes of love
open brightly
like a lotus bloom.
The light of wisdom
shines in majesty
like the morning sun.

I think it is definitely both, both change and not change. Although there is always change somewhere in the no change, even if that change is internal rather than external.
